The blog has been a bit dead considering I've been out on hiatus traveling and visiting family... so without much delay I'll give you the first installment of some of the work I did.

If you're into Dubstep in Melbourne, You would have known the Heavy Innit Crew in Melbourne.

This is a gig they had a Brown Alley last year when they brought down pretty pretty cool cats from UK. The room below was where the heavy stuff was going down.
After reviewing a lot of the photographs, a lot of them resembled people (dare I say) who have been in religious trances and prayers that I've sometimes seen.

None the less. Gigs are awesome to photograph.

Disintegrated

Five 3rd year fashion students approached me to help them with their folios.

For one subject they had to design clothes that disintegrated. Anne and Li-Anne explained it to me as Deathwear. We always make clothes for the living. Why not make clothes for the dead?

So upon spraying water on this tea bag like fabric, they melt into this gooey substance.

However most of the photographs are the 'before'

Smoke and mirrors

I mostly like doing documentary styled work, but every now and then it's fun to do some commercial product photography.. it's a lot different to how I work when I'm at an event.. I become obsessive to getting everything right, the smoke was not photographed. I used brushes.

Side note: If you see a smoke brush that is yours - let me know and I'll credit you, I have way too many smoke brushes and I cant remember which brush is from which collection. (sorry)

My friend Brendan organises these incredibly heavy, low down dirty nights full of dubstep grime and every glitchy nasty beat. I was commissioned to document the night.

Megahertz vs Rockdogs

I have lived in Melbourne for more than 5 years now and I've never been to see a footy game and since RRR along with PBS and Syn Fm were the Megahertz, I shot my first ever sports event!

I think I had small penis syndrome looking at all the majorly huge tele lenses and I was standing there with my 20D and a 70 - 300. *sigh*

It's a cold Wednesday evening and my desktop and Flash cards are absolutely cluttered everywhere and since I wasn't going out and finding photographs through that mess became unbearable, it was evident I needed to organise my photographs and put them neatly into its respective folders..

Thing about that is... you find photographs you forgot you took.. I love those.

The couple having a blast listening to Rat vs Possum, they are a great fun band to hear live. Very African, very rhythmic, very earthy.

Yup, still love her hair, she was at the same show too.

Kam Shueng Road

Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree in Hong Kong is located near the Tin Hou Temple in Lam Tsuen. To make a wish, one needs to first buy a "bao die." A "bao die" will have a large yellow paper on which you would need to write your wish. The paper is then rolled and tied to an orange. It is then tossed up the tree with hopes of it clinging on to its branches. If it doesn't hang in three tries, it is said that the wish made is too greedy.

Last year, for our final school project, we were allowed to do anything we wanted. So I decided to manage and promote the genre of Glitch hop. We sat for hours working our asses off, and even though our event didn't have the turn out we expected, we still made a wee bit of a profit.

Last year I photographed live sessions for RRR's Spring Loaded series. The first band in the line was Dick Diver, they are a pretty good rock band, and when I say rock band, I mean good old fashioned heavy riffs and long instrumental parts with great vocals and a chick drummer! And they sound great live!

I designed some business cards for a friend of mine, Andrew Kelly who is a great photographer and lives in Melbourne.. well close enough.

He wanted them simple, bold and square and this was the result.

They come in green and blue too. I have yet to actually see them. However, Andrew tells me they have been well received.

There is something about Hong Kong that I can't seem to leave. It's one of the most beautiful countries I've lived in.

I love how the ocean is never too far away and neither is a mountain top, how now, I live on top of a hill facing the legendary Amah rock. Every alley way and corner has it's own treasure of shops and eateries.

And more recently I went to my sister's university. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's campus is practically built on a small mountain and is facing the ocean full of Islands. On a foggy day you can't see 2 feet in front of you and if you look out at the ocean, it looks very much like a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean

This photograph isn't exactly my best photograph, but for some reason, I'm very attached to it.

My brother rarely every smiles straight. I was lucky.

The last few weeks have been more than tiring, it just has not been my weeks or months or something. There are so many menial tasks and errands to run, I spend most of my days wishing there were more than 24 hours in them.

So coming home from school today, I decided to screw every thing I was supposed to do, i.e clean the house, buy laundry detergent, organise files for school and sort out my bills and injected myself with creativity. Luckily I had my wonderful friend Sheeny around (who has an awesome blog by the way), dragged her home and dressed her up.

This is what I got.

Went to India and visited my cousins. Two of which have had babies. I got to meet my 1 year old niece and 3 month old nephew.

I particularly enjoy the 1 and - 3 year age, its when a child is coming to terms with their speech and movement, and everything is new.
I got to be 1 with her too.

I finally got the lips right, Whoo hoo!! *dances around* I think I've spent about 3 - 4 hours on the lips alone, changing it every time that I'd start a new session on the painting.

80% done!

All I've left to do now, is the hair, eyebrows, jewelry and background!

Me thinks pretty decent for a person who is painting a portrait (completely) for the first time.

Human body drawings are the bane of my existence, I want to give it character and dynamics, give it a flow of movement, but there is always something that just isn't quite there yet.

And I'm getting much better and not getting it quite right.

Not your average cake walk

My mother is not the easiest person to buy a present for, and she'd make it very difficult if my siblings and I try to do something nice for her on her birthday.
So, for her birthday I thought of painting a portrait of her.

Sadly enough, I have a few things going against me.
- I haven't painted a portrait in over a year
- When I do start, I rarely ever finish painting portraits
- I'm lazy and need a bit more than motivation

So you can see, this is a bit more than a monster of a challenge.

There is something about the sun, maybe it really does make you a happier person, and take all the sorrows away. The heat radiating through your body and warming up every cold little nook and cranny. It could also be that I haven't truly experienced it for 3 years now. Haven't been in the ocean for over 6 years, it's just too cold in the winter.

But to truly experience full freedom of the mind, and no constraints of your daily life weighing you down is something I've only just felt. Of course, there were always be things getting in your way, and the doldrum of daily life, but it's truly elevating. I know there are things i have to do, and goals I have to achieve, but I'm not weighed down because of it, and not sad that I didn't get it when I would have like to.

Yeah... I haven't felt like this in my whole life, probably is the sun.

It's like watching people walk by, slowly. Very slowly. They laugh and talk to each other, they sometimes argue. But they don't notice, that someone is watching them. They live in a little bubble that they call their little life. It is safe there. No one touches them there. THere are no strangers, only a sea of familiar faces. The ones that they dont know, pass by and they live in oblivion.
